One of the best pizza and pasta I had was at Max Brenner’s. I never thought that I could eat the best pizza on a restaurant that specializes on chocolates (?).

The prize does really worth it!

Bahay Kubo

I tried another lumpiang sariwa at Bahay Kubo at Sta. Lucia Grandmall. I can no longer remember what it taste and how special their version of this dish, but I’m sure it’s a knockout =)

Sinampalukan manok tastes like chicken sinigang. I love the tang while it’s hot. Bahay kubo rice is their version of fried rice. It’s good and it’s worth the try.

What I really can’t forget is the ambiance of the place. Its cozy and relaxing.

It’s really fascinating that her prominent features and traits are shown on the ultrasound. She pouts when she sleeps and uses her arm as pillow.

Basyang and asawang in Manila

Last night, when the storm Basyang was about to hit Metro Manila, I could feel the potential of the strong wind. So, I went to my Nanay and asked her if there’s unbolted roof. I could hear the clashing of thin metal against the wood of our roof canal. Then she asked our house help to check if there are kids at the roof picking Mango fruit of our neighbor.

The night before that, I could hear footsteps but I know that was only a cat but still I wasn’t able to sleep. I was bothered by the noise since I’m a light sleeper.

When the helper came down and asked me if I sleep in supine position, I said yes, and then she said that I should sleep on my sides instead because she’s been seeing a black cat for days now at our roof. Then the other neighbor, who’s with my Nanay that time, tells stories about aswang. Our helper said that she forgot to tell me to be careful since this is my first pregnancy. First pregnancy is the aswang’s favorite. They said that those creatures could smell it from a far.

It scared the shit of me! I think any woman whose seven months pregnant would be paranoid hearing that. My Nanay said that there’s no such thing in Manila. The helper and the neighbor who’s raised from the province think otherwise. The neighbor said that there was vacationer near their house and the baby really liked her, so, she picked up and played with the baby. She said she had goose bumps as soon as she held the baby and looked at the baby’s eyes. She said her reflection was turned upside down. The father of the baby took the kid from our neighbor because he noticed that she was shocked. Our helper said that I should put garlic on my windows, beside me when I sleep, and spread crush garlic on my clothes; just in front of my navel.

That’s where I left them. Honestly, I was scared. Not because of aswang or anything, but the possibility that someone or some creature is trying to take my Elli away from me and my husband. Be that a human or creature, I’m ready to do battle.

I know it’s silly at this age and technology, but I’m prepared. Plus, my faith is stronger than anyone’s dark intensions.

It’s Christmas season and it’s really hard to find restaurants at the mall that aren’t packed out. There’s a huge crowd everywhere; at the restrooms, cafés, department stores, MRT stations, taxi bays, parking lot, and even in residential streets. Festive season really makes the people come out of their homes.

Richard and I went to SM Mall of Asia to buy groceries and food for our anniversary party. A lot of early birds are storming the supermarket, I guess rushing for noche buena. Thank God they have lots of working cashier or else I would definitely leave my cart somewhere and walk out.

All of our favorite restaurants were all full, even an inasal restaurant near the supermarket was jam-packed. So we ended up in a pizza restaurant, Carlos Pizza. For me, it was the most relaxing place on Earth that time. Only four tables are occupied. I love the ambiance. It really has a calming effect.

We had pizza and their new drink, strawberry teeze, which doesn’t match with the pizza. We ordered their Messicana pizza and it’s the best pizza I had since Max Brenner’s. It’s only P395 and taste really worth more than that! The taste of cheese and Jalapeno chilies lingers in your mouth. It’s strong because of the Mexican taste but it contradicts the softness of the melted cheese. I don’t think that it’s purely mozzarella. I think there’s other type of cheese in that pizza because it’s not rubbery.

Their flyer says “We’re more than just pizza.” I’ll take that as a challenge and I’ll surely try out their other dishes just to prove it. That would be fun.
